TALES TO THE YOUNG & ANCIENT FRIENDS

These two series reflect a practice of painting that engages with imagination. Painting is a way to summon and receive images from deep in the mind; painting is in service to images that arise. These paintings are close to dream images, and yet are not dreams: the deep space of painting is different than dreaming. They are on the threshold of narratives, yet no stories are associated with them. I like to think of these images as ragas upon which a story can be improvised.

Tales to the Young grew out of Ancient Friends, the series that began a journey of cultivating an acquaintance with the processes of imagination, and which was immeasurably deepened in the course of a doctoral program in Mythological Studies, with a minor in Depth Psychology, at the Pacifica Graduate Institute
